All of these images are map elements I created for Worldspinner Games/Toys. They wanted points of interest and monsters as decorative elements for their maps that looked hand-drawn, as if they came from the maps made in the Middle Ages or the Renaissance. I have shown my process here. I begin with a pencil sketch, shown on the far right, which I use as an underdrawing for the ink line drawing. The ink line drawing is then scanned. Next, I do a separate loose watercolor painting, which is also scanned and used as a fill layer. All of it is then aligned and cleaned digitally to create the end product. Once again, all of these images only appear as 140 pixels on screen and 2 inches in print.
